US 1834 Capped Bust Silver Half Dollar, Large Date, Small Letters, PCGS AU Details - This United States silver half dollar was minted at the Philadelphia Mint. The obverse features the Capped Bust Liberty design, surrounded by thirteen stars with the date 1834 below. The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast, clutching an olive branch and arrows, with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM on a scroll above and the denomination 50 C. at the base. The coin is encapsulated in a clear plastic professional grading holder from PCGS. A blue and white adhesive label inside the holder is printed with the PCGS logo and the text 1834 50C PCGS Genuine Harshly Cleaned-AU Detail Large Date, Small Letters 6165.92/54951187. The label also features a gold shield logo and a barcode. The back of the holder features a white adhesive label printed with the PCGS logo, the text GENUINE NOT GRADABLE, and a wireless security signal icon. The coin is professionally graded by PCGS as Genuine, Harshly Cleaned-AU Detail. Visual inspection confirms the AU (About Uncirculated) detail level, with sharp definition remaining on the high points of Liberty's hair and the eagle's feathers (photo 2, 3). The surfaces exhibit evidence of past abrasive cleaning, resulting in bright, reflective fields that contrast sharply with dark, original-looking toning concentrated around the stars, lettering, and design recesses (photo 1, 2).
