US 1882 Souvenir Medalet, Brass - A US brass souvenir medalet struck for the Philadelphia Mint. The obverse features a relief depiction of the second Philadelphia Mint building, which operated from 1833 to 1901, displaying its classical portico and tall chimney. Above the building is a struck inscription reading U. S. MINT and at the base is the inscription PHILA. over the date 1882. The reverse is struck with sixteen lines of micro-lettering containing the full text of the Lord Prayer, which reads OUR FATHER, WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME. THY KINGDOM COME. THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH, AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD AND FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES, AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US. AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL. The text is enclosed by a double-beaded border. The piece includes an integral suspension loop threaded with a fragment of red silk ribbon. Diameter: 1/2 inch (13mm). The medalet is in circulated condition with moderate surface wear and a total loss of original luster (photo 1). Localized areas of greenish oxidation are visible within the recessed lettering on the reverse and around the suspension hole (photo 2, 3). The attached red silk ribbon is heavily frayed and shows significant soiling (photo 4).
