1934 Chevrolet Stand By Advertising Pinback Button by St. Louis Button Co. - This original promotional teaser button was produced for the marketing campaign of the 1934 Chevrolet. The graphic features a winking anthropomorphic mascot in the shape of an X, wearing a sailor cap with the Chevrolet bowtie logo and holding two red and white semaphore flags. The cream-colored background is printed with blue text reading ”stand by” at the top and for the flanking the figure, with 1934 Chevrolet in red at the bottom. The button is constructed with a celluloid wrap over a metal shell. A blue printed mark on the folded interior edge of the celluloid reads ST. LOUIS BUTTON CO. ST. LOUIS MO. Diameter: approximately 7/8 inch (measured across the widest point). The celluloid face exhibits significant age-related crazing and fine hairline cracking throughout (photo 1). The cream background has yellowed over time. The metal reverse and pin show heavy oxidation, pitting, and surface rust (photo 2). The pin fastener remains intact and functional.
