Baskin Brothers Aluminum Jeweler's Stone and Ring Gauge Calculator - A vintage jeweler's stone and ring gauging instrument manufactured for Baskin Brothers, Inc. of New York. The two-part tool is constructed of brushed aluminum with red lithographed scales and text. The front features a rotating circular calculator wheel that correlates carat weights and fractions to millimeter measurements. The center of the wheel is marked for Baskin Brothers, Inc., located at 38 West 48th St., N.Y. 19, N.Y., and includes a patent pending notice. The reverse side features the script Lifetime logo above Diamond and Stone Rings and a central birthstone chart listing genuine and synthetic stones for every month of the year. A copyright date of 1949 is printed at the bottom of the chart. The perimeter of the rectangular plate contains multiple circular apertures of varying sizes for stone and ring gauging, labeled in both millimeters and carats ranging from 2 to 11 mm and 1/32 to 1 1/2 carats. The item is in excellent vintage condition. The aluminum surface shows light handling wear and fine surface scratches consistent with age and professional use. The red printed text and scales remain crisp, bright, and fully legible. The central rotating wheel is intact and functions smoothly.
