American Optical Company Model 385-A Microscope Substage Lamp with Original Box - An antique microscope substage lamp, model 385-A, manufactured by the American Optical Company. The instrument is constructed with a black molded housing, likely Bakelite, and a stamped chrome-plated metal base. It features a ground blue glass filter lens and a knurled metal dial on the top surface. The face of the lamp has four circular ventilation holes at both the top and bottom. One side panel contains a cluster of seven circular ventilation holes. The top of the device is marked with a shield logo containing the letters AO. The underside of the metal base is stamped: AMERICAN OPTICAL CO. MADE IN U.S.A. 10 WATTS 115 VOLTS CSA APP. NO. 1087. The unit includes its original integrated power cord with a two-prong plug. It is accompanied by its original light green textured cardboard box, which features a red shield logo and a white paper label stating: 385-A SUBSTAGE LAMP WITH GROUND BLUE GLASS. The original box shows typical signs of age, including light discoloration and bumping to the corners, but remains structurally sound with a legible label.
