W. L. Gilbert Bell Tower Novelty Alarm Clock - An antique novelty alarm mantel clock manufactured by the W. L. Gilbert Clock Company, designed in the form of a bell tower. The case is constructed of cast metal with a gilt finish and features a textured wood grain pattern throughout the body. At the top, a large external bell is mounted within a frame stamped with patent dates for December 4, 1883, and July 22, 1884. The circular white dial features Roman numeral hour markers and includes an intertwined CG monogram at the 12 o'clock position, a mark associated with the French movement maker Couaillet Freres. The dial includes two sub-dials: an upper dial for alarm setting and a lower dial for seconds. The rear of the clock reveals a mechanical two-train movement with a textured basketweave pattern on the rear plate. The clock is accompanied by a winding key stamped with the number 3.00. Height: 11 inches Width: 6.5 inches. The clock exhibits significant structural damage; the shingled roof canopy element is detached from the main body, and its support posts are broken at the mounting points above the bell. The metal case shows general surface grime, dust, and localized oxidation to the gilt finish. The dial displays notable staining, spotting, and discoloration. The mechanical movement is untested and the working status is unknown.
