Bidspirit auction | French Ebonized Wood Miniature Longcase
French Ebonized Wood Miniature Longcase Shelf Clock - A miniature longcase shelf clock of French manufacture. The ebonized wood case features a primitive construction style with visible nail heads and a trunk door fitted with brass H-hinges and a latch. The clock face consists of a white enamel dial with blue Roman numeral hour markers, a minute track, and ornate pierced gilt hands. A single winding arbor is located below the center of the dial, which is enclosed by a heavily embossed gilt metal bezel. The mechanical time-only movement features a rear plate stamped with the word FRANCE, the serial number 1737, and a small rectangular mark with S.F over PARIS. The accompanying detached pendulum bob is also stamped with the matching serial number 1737. 11.75 inches (H) x 4.5 inches (W) x 3.25 inches (D). The case shows significant age-related wear, including chips and losses to the black paint finish along the base, edges, and corners. There is a visible crack in the wood on the top panel and a small section of wood loss to the interior door block. The brass hardware, pendulum rod, and bob show surface oxidation and a darkened patina. The movement appears complete but is dusty and untested for functionality. The pendulum is detached and no winding key is present.
