Vintage Elgin Grade 554 Men's Art Deco Wristwatch Runs - A vintage Elgin National Watch Co. men's Art Deco wristwatch featuring a manual-wind mechanical movement. The movement is marked ELGIN 554 U-S-A, C 1 1 4 9 1, and 15 JEWELS. The watch is confirmed to be in running condition. The rectangular gold-tone case is constructed of base metal and marked internally as Cased and Timed by Elgin National Watch Co. with serial number 3 8 8 0 2 7 and a Roy hand logo stamp. Hand-scratched jeweler's marks 11966 and 11666 are present inside the case back. The aged champagne-tone dial features applied gold-tone Arabic numerals and a subsidiary seconds dial at the 6 o'clock position. The watch is paired with a vintage brown strap stamped Genuine Lizard with a gold-tone buckle. Case Width: 27 mm Case Length: 37 mm Total Length: 7.75 inches. This timepiece exhibits significant wear consistent with age. There is heavy brassing on the lugs, crown, and case edges where the gold tone has worn through to the base metal. Green verdigris corrosion is present on the interior case rim. The dial shows extensive patina, oxidation, and spotting. The crystal has numerous fine surface scratches. The lizard skin strap is dry and brittle. The movement is confirmed to be running; however, timekeeping accuracy and power reserve have not been tested.
