Lionel No. 262 Highway Crossing Gate in Original Box - The Lionel Corporation No. 262 Highway Crossing Gate is a postwar model train accessory designed for use with O-gauge and O-27 gauge electric train sets. The unit is constructed with a die-cast metal pedestal and main post, featuring a molded plastic gate arm with black and white diagonal stripes. The crossing signal includes a crossbuck sign marked Railroad Crossing and a Stop on Red Signal placard situated below dual red plastic warning lenses. This electrically operated accessory is designed to lower the gate and activate the warning lights as a train passes. The item is housed in its original red, white, and blue cardboard window display box. The front of the box features the manufacturer slogan A Lifetime Investment in Happiness across the top and vertical Lionel branding. A retail price sticker on the side panel shows a regular price of $7.75 and a sale price of $6.98. The reverse of the box displays large block lettering reading Lionel Electric Trains. The accessory is in uncleaned condition and has not been tested for mechanical or electrical functionality. Die-cast metal components show significant surface dust and visible signs of age-related oxidation and pitting. The plastic gate arm appears straight and intact without visible cracks. The original box exhibits moderate shelf wear including creasing along the edges, softened corners, and a small tear on the top right corner of the rear panel. The clear plastic display window is intact but has accumulated a layer of dust and grime on both the exterior and interior surfaces.
