Bidspirit auction | Lionel No. 3451 Automatic Lumber

Lionel No. 3451 Automatic Lumber Car with Original Box - A Lionel No. 3451 Automatic Lumber Car produced by The Lionel Corporation. This postwar era O-gauge freight car is constructed with a die-cast metal chassis and trucks combined with a sheet-metal upper body. The car is designed as a flatcar with vertical stakes and a mechanical platform that tilts to unload cargo when activated by an operating track section. The underside reveals the solenoid, wiring, and pick-up rollers necessary for remote operation. The car sides are marked 3451 and LIONEL in white lettering. The original cardboard packaging features the traditional orange and blue Lionel livery and is marked with the catalog number 3451 and Automatic Lumber Car on the end flaps. The side of the box indicates it was Made in U. S. of America. The car is in used, original condition. The die-cast metal trucks show heavy white oxidation and surface pitting, a typical sign of zinc alloy deterioration for this era. The black paint on the car body has minor chips and general surface wear throughout. The car is missing its original load of wooden logs. The operating mechanism is untested for functionality. The original box exhibits significant wear, including creasing, crushed corners, surface staining, and torn or loose end flaps.
