The set includes a 4-6-4 Hudson steam locomotive and a matching tender, both constructed with die-cast metal bodies. The equipment features authentic Chicago and Alton Red Train livery in maroon and gold, with the engine and tender numbered 659. According to the original packaging, the locomotive is equipped with a Pullmor motor, Magne-Traction, an electronic whistle, electronic Mighty Sound of Steam, puffing smoke, and a working headlight. The system is transformer-controlled with forward, neutral, and reverse operations. The tender features six-wheel die-cast trucks and wire handrails. The item is contained within its original color-illustrated box bearing a 1981 copyright for Fundimensions, a division of CPG Products Corp. based in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. The packaging displays matching passenger cars, models 6-9554 through 6-9558, which were offered separately to complete the train set. The locomotive and tender are in their original illustrated box. The box shows visible shelf wear including corner dings, creasing, and minor tearing at the flaps and edges.
