James Hanley Brewing Co Hanleys Peerless Ale Porcelain Enamel Tray by The Baltimore Enamel and Novelty Co - Manufactured by The Baltimore Enamel and Novelty Co., this antique porcelain enamel serving tray advertises Hanleys Peerless Ale for The James Hanley Brewing Co. of Providence, Rhode Island. The central field contains a blue monochromatic illustration of a Victorian gentleman holding a stemmed glass of ale, captioned above as The Connoisseur. The image is framed by a dark blue border with white block lettering that reads HANLEYS PEERLESS ALE along the top and THE JAMES HANLEY BREWING CO. PROV., R. I. along the bottom. The reverse of the tray features a central oval maker mark that reads The Baltimore Enamel and Novelty Co., TRAYS IN ALL COLORS., Baltimore, Md. and 190 W. Bway, N.Y. Material: Porcelain. The item is in as-found vintage condition with notable signs of age and use. The central graphic on the front shows significant fading, surface pitting, and small losses to the enamel. Scattered rust spots are visible on the figure and near the rim. The reverse side exhibits extensive fine crazing throughout the surface, along with localized rust spots and minor edge wear. The maker mark remains largely legible.
