Mid-Century Modernist Double-Sided Abstract Painting on Board - This mid-century modernist abstract painting is executed in oil or mixed media on a heavily textured burlap or coarse canvas support mounted to a rigid board. The primary composition on the recto features a complex, non-representational arrangement of intersecting geometric and organic forms in a monochromatic palette of sepia, umber, grey, and cream. The artist utilized expressive brushwork, scumbled layers, and sgraffito lines scratched into the paint to reveal the underlying texture. The reverse side of the panel contains a secondary, unrelated abstract composition in a fluid style with a palette of pale blue, pink, and green. No signature or inscription is visible on either side of the work. 22 x 30 inches. The work displays condition issues consistent with age including surface dirt and dust accumulation. There is minor paint loss and fraying of the textile support at the extreme edges. Staining and surface scuffs are present on the reverse side.
