Bidspirit auction | A Collection of Five Military
A Collection of Five Military Bayonets Including Japanese Type 30 and German Ersatz Models - This collection includes five early 20th-century military bayonets of varying origins and designs. The set includes a Japanese Type 30 Arisaka bayonet featuring a straight blade with a deep fuller, wood grips, and a characteristic hooked quillon. Two German World War I era emergency issue Ersatz bayonets are present: one features a ribbed all-metal steel hilt with a hooked quillon, and the other features a ribbed hilt made of cast brass with a mounting slot for a bayonet lug but no muzzle ring. Also included is a French folding carbine bayonet, resembling the Model 1890/92 pattern, with a slender cruciform-section blade and a folding socket mechanism. The final piece is a knife bayonet with wood grips secured by two rivets, featuring a single fuller and a muzzle ring. This example bears the stamped serial number 7567 on the pommel and appears consistent with an Italian Model 1891 pattern. Lengths range from approximately 13 inches to 20 inches. The collection is in poor to fair condition. All ferrous metal components show heavy oxidation, surface rust, and deep pitting. The brass hilt on one specimen shows a dark aged patina with some verdigris. Wood grips are weathered and dried, showing cracks and material loss. Mechanical locking and folding parts appear to be seized or stiff due to corrosion. All items are missing their respective scabbards.
