A Collection of 23 Vintage North American Railroad and Transit Uniform Buttons on Original Handwritten Mounting Card - A collection of 23 vintage North American railroad and streetcar uniform buttons, primarily constructed of brass or gold-toned metal with embossed relief designs. The buttons are mounted onto a period paper card which includes identifying handwritten notes in both ink and pencil. The assortment represents a variety of major Class I railroads, regional lines, and urban transit systems from the early to mid-20th century. Featured companies include Union Pacific, Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific (CMStP&P), Denver and Rio Grande Western, Chicago and North Western, Long Island Rail Road, Southwest Missouri Railroad Company, Chicago Great Western (labeled as Chicago Grand Western), Third Avenue Railroad, Market Street Railway Company (depicting a streetcar), New York, New Haven and Hartford, Atlantic Coast Line, Missouri Pacific Lines, Kettle Valley Railway, Central of Georgia, Pennsylvania Railroad (keystone logo), Great Northern Railway, Illinois Central, Southern Railway, New York Central, Burlington Route, and Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe. The buttons are in good to very good collectible condition with typical light age-related tarnish and surface oxidation; embossed details remain sharp and legible. The original mounting card is in poor condition, exhibiting significant fragility, heavy foxing, staining, and multiple tears, particularly along the top edge and where buttons are affixed.
