Bidspirit auction | Vintage Mid-Century Hand-Pieced Rail Fence
Vintage Mid-Century Hand-Pieced Rail Fence Pattern Tied Scrap Quilt - This vintage hand-pieced tied quilt is constructed in a traditional rail fence pattern. The design features rectangular blocks, each made of three horizontal or vertical fabric strips arranged in an alternating grid layout. The piece is composed of a diverse array of cotton and cotton-blend scrap fabrics, including floral calicoes, ginghams, stripes, and solid colors characteristic of mid-20th-century dressmaking remnants. One red and white checked fabric strip features the printed manufacturer's mark TUBFAST. The quilt layers are secured with multi-colored yarn ties or tufts positioned at the corners and centers of the blocks. The backing consists of a continuous printed fabric with a repetitive blue and cream geometric floral medallion design. The edges are finished with a simple rolled binding formed by the backing material. Length: Approximately 84 inches Width: Approximately 67 inches. Overall good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Visual inspection reveals minor scattered light staining and small areas of localized discoloration. There is general fading to some of the brighter fabric components. The construction remains structurally sound, with the hand-piecing and yarn ties largely intact, showing only light fraying.
