Two Vintage Packard Swan and Pontiac Chieftain Hood Ornaments - This lot features two original mid-century American automotive hood mascots. The first is a Packard Swan mascot, often referred to as the Cormorant, mounted on a full-length streamlined hood trim base. This specific design was utilized by the Packard Motor Car Company for models produced between the late 1940s and early 1950s. The second mascot is a Pontiac Chieftain ornament, featuring a stylized Indian head profile in a jet airplane or torpedo-style body. This Art Deco-influenced design was used on Pontiac models circa 1950. Both ornaments are manufactured from chrome-plated die-cast pot metal. The Packard ornament depicts a swan with an arched neck and swept-back wings atop a long, tapering chrome mounting strip. The Pontiac mascot includes a profile head with tiered headdress details, three raised chevrons on the side, and a circular recessed element. Both pieces retain their original threaded mounting studs on the underside for attachment to a vehicle's hood. Packard Mascot: 28 inches in length Pontiac Mascot: 9 inches in length. Both items are in fair vintage condition. There is significant and widespread surface pitting and pimpling across the chrome plating of both ornaments, which is a typical aging characteristic of die-cast metal. The undersides of both pieces show oxidation, and the mounting hardware and threaded studs exhibit heavy rust. The metal castings appear structurally sound with no visible cracks or previous repairs.
