One-Gallon Scranton Distributing Company Two-Tone Stoneware Advertising Jug - This is a one-gallon stoneware shoulder jug featuring a two-tone glaze. The neck and shoulder are finished in a dark brown Albany-type slip glaze, which contrasts with the cream-colored Bristol-glazed body. The front of the jug is decorated with a black stenciled merchant mark featuring a crown graphic. Inside the crown is the numeral 1, and the base of the crown contains the letters GAL, indicating the capacity. Below the crown, four lines of stenciled text read SCRANTON DISTRIBUTING COMPANY 504 LACKAWANNA AVE. The jug originated from Scranton, Pennsylvania. The base is unglazed and shows concentric wire-cut marks from the manufacturing process. The surface exhibits typical stoneware characteristics, including small iron pips and firing specks.
