The handle is tapered with flat sides. One side is hand-inscribed with script in black pigment that reads Rockaway Beach, N.Y., identifying it as a regional souvenir from Queens, New York. The reverse side of the mother-of-pearl handle features hand-carved decorative motifs including geometric hatching and stylized fronds. The metal barrel, likely gold-filled or gold-plated brass, is decorated with two sections of knurled barleycorn engine-turning for enhanced grip.
