John Hay Signed Department of State Appointment for Jeremiah W. Jenks, 1903 - This is an original United States Department of State appointment document dated April 17, 1903. The document certifies the appointment of Jeremiah W. Jenks of New York as a member of the Commission on International Exchange. The printed text outlines the commission's mandate to cooperate through diplomatic channels with the governments of Mexico, China, Japan, and other countries for the purpose of restoring and maintaining a fixed relationship between the moneys of gold standard countries and silver using countries, pursuant to the Act of Congress approved March 3, 1903.
