1780 Dutch Naval Victualling Manuscript Letter Regarding the Warship Schiedam - This is a formal 18th-century Dutch manuscript letter dated April 9, 1780, originating from Rotterdam. The document was sent by Johannes van Vianen to Lieutenant J. Janssen, commander of the state warship Schiedam, while the vessel was stationed at the roadstead of Hellevoetsluis. The letter is written in a formal Dutch cursive on a single sheet of laid paper with an integral address panel. On the reverse is an intact red wax heraldic seal depicting a coat of arms with a checky pattern on the lower half and an indeterminate charge in the upper half, surmounted by a crest.
