Napoleonic First French Empire Wax Seal Impression Juge de Paix de la Haye Bouches de la Meuse - This item is an official wax seal impression representing the Justice of the Peace (Juge de Paix) of The Hague during the First French Empire. The seal is composed of blue sealing wax applied to a cream-colored cardstock mount. The central motif features the Napoleonic Imperial Eagle facing left, surmounted by a crown and surrounded by a mantle. The circular border of the seal contains the inscriptions JUGE DE PAIX DE LA HAYE in the upper arc and BOUCHES DE LA MEUSE in the lower arc. The Department of Bouches-de-la-Meuse was an administrative division of the French Empire established in 1810 following the annexation of the Kingdom of Holland. The card includes handwritten identification in black ink at the top reading Juge de paix a la Haye / (4) Bouches de la Meuse / plus or minus 1808. A further notation or. lak. is visible in the lower left corner. This piece represents the French civil administration in the annexed territories of the Netherlands between 1810 and 1814.
