The backing card is repurposed from a German souvenir set, featuring fragmentary printed text on the reverse in Blackletter script identifying it as a collection of 12 photogravure views of Nuremberg. The obverse contains several lines of handwritten Germanic cursive script in dark ink, identifying the subject as v. d. Hoeven / Dr. Wilhelm. Additional notations include the text Cr. Siegel.
