1700 Dutch Heraldic Wax Seal Fragment, Thomas Schatter, Haarlem Magistrate - This historical wax seal specimen is a sigillographical fragment removed from an archival document. The circular seal is composed of dark wax and features a central heraldic crest within a circular border. The seal is attributed to Thomas Schatter, who served as a schepen (magistrate or alderman) in the city of Haarlem, Netherlands. The item is mounted on a square of toned cardstock with a circular cutout that permits viewing of the reverse side of the seal. The seal is secured to the mount by a translucent paper strip. Handwritten ink notations on the mount identify the subject, his office, and the date 1700. A stamped mark reading A.G.R-DI. and a reference number C.Z. 202 indicate a former European archival or museum provenance, likely the Algemeen Rijksarchief (General State Archives).
