1757 Dutch Armorial Wax Letter Seal of Samuel van der Straeten - This lot features one circular armorial wax letter seal belonging to Samuel van der Straeten, dated 1757. The dark brown wax seal displays a central shield surmounted by a barred helmet with decorative mantling and a crest. The border features a Latin circumscription in relief including the text SIGILLVM and the name STRATEN. The seal is mounted in a vintage collector card with a circular aperture and is secured by paper strips. Handwritten ink notations on the card identify the individual as Mr Samuel v. d. Straeten, 1757, N. Holl. The title Mr likely refers to the Dutch Meester or Master of Law, and N. Holl. indicates an origin in North Holland. An attached paper strip also contains the name and date.
