American 19th Century Grain Painted Wooden Firkin or Sugar Bucket - This 19th-century American firkin or sugar bucket is constructed with a stave-built body and features an overall grain painted finish. The faux-grained decoration is executed in reddish-brown and ochre tones, with the main body displaying simulated burls and the horizontal bands and handle featuring repeating chevron patterns. The container is equipped with a fitted circular lid and a wooden swing handle secured to the body by round wooden buttons. The horizontal bands are joined using a finger-lapped or swallowtail technique and are fastened with small metal tacks. The interior of the bucket remains in an unpainted, natural wood state.
