A Collection of United States Jefferson Nickels - A collection of United States Jefferson five-cent coins dating from the late 1930s through the late 1940s. The obverse of each coin features a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson facing left, accompanied by the inscriptions IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBERTY along with the specific mint year. The reverse depicts Monticello, Jefferson's Virginia estate, with the inscriptions E PLURIBUS UNUM, MONTICELLO, FIVE CENTS, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The group includes several silver alloy War Nickels produced between 1942 and 1945, identifiable by the large P, D, or S mint marks positioned above the dome of Monticello. These specific specimens were struck in a composition of 35 percent silver, 56 percent copper, and 9 percent manganese. The remaining coins are composed of a standard cupro-nickel alloy.
