The platter is carved from mottled yellowish-brown hardstone, consistent with polished soapstone, and features four circular recesses designed to hold the cups, along with a central recessed oval area for the ewer. When the ewer is removed, the central recess displays an inlaid or carved floral design resembling a rose. The central ewer is intricately carved in high relief depicting a dragon with scales and flowing whiskers; its open mouth functions as a spout. The four miniature cups are carved with wave or cloud motifs. The ewer and cups are carved from a lighter-colored material, likely soapstone that has been heavily patinated or stained dark brown to emphasize the carved details.
