A Collection of ten 19th Century Cased Daguerreotypes, Ambrotypes, and Tintypes - A collection of ten cased photographic images and related framed portraits, primarily dating from the mid to late 19th century, approximately 1840s to 1880s. The ensemble includes various early photographic formats such as daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes, alongside several hand-colored prints or chromolithographs. These images predominantly depict individual or small group portraits of adults and children. The photographs are housed in an assortment of cases, including intricately embossed gutta-percha or thermoplastic ”union cases” and hinged leather-bound or papier-mâché cases. Many feature decorative gilt-metal mats with scrollwork designs and velvet linings, typically in shades of red or maroon. No legible text or manufacturer markings are immediately visible on the items.
