Unusual British Redware Colander / Pierced Jar Presented to ”Mrs. Scot” (South Cove, Suffolk) - Unusual British Redware Colander / Pierced Jar Presented to ”Mrs. Scot” (South Cove, Suffolk) Coarse redware having green and orange splotching with manganese splashes beneath a thick lead glaze, cylindrical form with thick rim and ruffled/rope-textured band below, numerous holes in various sizes punched through body and across the rim, remains of a cup or small basin attached to bottom interior. Incised in script: ”Mrs Scot South Cove / Suffolk” to front of body and ”Made By Geo. Chambers” and two more illegible words below rim; also incised ”Mrs. Scot South Cove Suffolk” below rim at rear. 19th century. Dimensions: 11 5/8” H, 6 5/8” D base. Condition: Fair as-found condition with heavy wear to body, chipping and losses to rim, loss of both handles, and multiple tight hairlines extending downwards from chips at the rim.
