Green-Glazed Manganese-Decorated American Redware Creamer / Small Pitcher - Green-Glazed Manganese-Decorated American Redware Creamer / Small Pitcher Red earthenware with speckled manganese and lead glaze over a green glaze with orange spotting; wide-mouthed compressed globular form with thickened round rim, applied ear-shaped handle, and wide round foot. Mid/second half 19th century. Dimensions: 4” H, 2 5/8” D foot. Condition: Excellent condition with very minor flaking/glaze exfoliation around spout and along edges of the handle. Provenance: The Stradling Study Collection. Catalogue Note: This piece apparently carried a note when purchased indicating a prior owner believed it to be a product of the Mehwaldt pottery near Bergholz in Western NY. There are similarities of course in the mottled glaze and in overall form and rim style, but this green glaze does not seem to be represented in any extant examples of Mehwaldt's work (Stradling 1977, p. 42, fig. 7).
