Lot of Two Rockingham-Glazed Teapots Attributed to Charles Coxon's Trenton NJ Pottery - Lot of Two Rockingham-Glazed Teapots Attributed to Charles Coxon's Trenton NJ Pottery Thick mottled brown Rockingham glaze over buff-colored yellowware, paneled pear-shaped body relief-molded on either side with an image of two well-dressed woman having tea, gnarled tree trunk-form spout and branch handle, both teapots retaining original covers with images of an American eagle and a flag. Circa 1863-1868. Dimensions: 5 3/4” H smaller, 7 3/4” H larger. Condition: Smaller: Teapot excellent with roughness to spout, minor high point wear, and burn marks to footring. Lid having lost its entire flange and been roughly reduced in height with resulting chips. Larger: Teapot excellent with minor wear and one 1” wide U-shaped loss to rim above handle. Lid excellent with two flakes and a shallow chip at outer edge of rim. Provenance: The Stradling Study Collection. Smaller: Purchased from Robert Leese, 09/05/1989. Larger: Purchased from Lee Baxter, 09/05/1989. Catalogue Note: Matching shards were excavated on the site of a waster pit associated with Charles Coxon's Clinton Street Pottery circa 1863 to 1868 (Liebeknecht et al. 2003, fig. 2). A complete example, like the two offered in this lot, is pictured in Diana's ”Fancy Rockingham Pottery” exhibition catalogue (Stradling 2005, p. 85).
