Bennington Flint-Enamel / Rockingham-Glazed Figural Book Flask / Bottle Stamped ”53B” - Bennington Flint-Enamel / Rockingham-Glazed Figural Book Flask / Bottle Stamped ”53B” Brown Rockingham-type glaze with green flecking all under lead glaze, stamped ”53B” upside down to lower edge of spine, no title. Attributed to Lyman, Fenton & Co. (The United States Pottery Co.), Bennington, VT. 1849-1858. Dimensions: 7 7/8” H, 5 7/8” x 2 5/8” base. Condition: Excellent condition with minor wear and staining, and some subtle painted restoration to glaze loss on book's back cover. Provenance: The Stradling Study Collection. Skinner Auction, 06/06/1999. Catalogue Note: Less than half of all book flasks were stamped with a title (Wade 2025, p. 19). The cryptic ”53B” mark on this example could be a date code for 1853, or it could be simply a bench mark with no discernible meaning outside the pottery on the day it was made. Auctioneer's Note: We are thrilled to bring the Stradling Study Collection to market in partnership with Connor Rush of SFR Antiques, whose help and scholarship enabled the completion of this session's catalogue.
