Stamped Bennington Flint-Enamel / Rockingham-Glazed Ewer and Wash Bowl - Stamped Bennington Flint-Enamel / Rockingham-Glazed Ewer and Wash Bowl Vivid blue, olive-green, and yellow flecking amidst the brown Rockingham-type glaze all under lead glaze, the pitcher having relief-molded vertically ribbed design on a tall high-shouldered baluster-form body, with molded and applied arched handle, molded grapevine decorations around rim. Bowl echoes the same pattern with grapevine around outer rim beside an abbreviated suggestion of alternate ribbing. Both stamped with Barret ”Type A” mark on base reading ?Lyman Fenton & Co / Fenton?s / ENAMEL. / PATENTED / 1849. / BENNINGTON, Vt?. Probably designed by Daniel Greatbach, Bennington, VT. 1849-1858. Dimensions: Pitcher: 12 1/2” H, 5 1/8” D base. Bowl: 4 3/8” H, 13 1/2” D rim. Condition: Pitcher: Excellent condition with a 1 1/2” tight diagonal hairline from rim and a small chip to underside of base; also a network of radial firing lines to underside, as made. Bowl: Very good condition with a 3” vertical hairline from rim having some glaze exfoliation along its length. Provenance: The Stradling Study Collection. Garths Auction, 09/03/2005, lot 86.
