Karl Bodmer Etchings of Native Americans 1800
In this lot is offered a pair of etchings of Native American by Karl (Charles) Bodmer. The first etching is marked, Engraved expressly for Graham's Magazine, Eng. by Rawdon, Wright &Hatch, Ch.Bodmer Pinx ad. nat Saukie and Fox Indians.This piece measures 10 1/4" X 6 1/8" It is on heavy paper with some marks around the etching and light foxing on the edges. The second piece has the same notes other than it says "Drawn by Ch. Bodmer" rather than Ch.Bodmer Pinx ad. nat. This etching is called Mandan Women and measures the same and has similar marks and foxing to the paper. It is believed that these two pieces are from an edition of "Travels in the Interior of North America," by Maximillian, Prince of Wied Newied. .
