Gabbehs are admired for their tactile wool, simplified forms and spontaneous compositions. Their makers frequently reduced people, animals, plants and elements of the surrounding landscape to expressive geometric symbols. The apparent simplicity of these rugs is deceptive: the strongest examples depend on sensitive relationships among color, texture, irregular drawing, and open space.
