Born in Hungary and later established in Quito, Fisch worked closely with Ecuadorian artisans, drawing inspiration from Indigenous weaving, archaeology, folk traditions and the visual culture of the Andes. The Caballito, or ?little horse, ? design transforms a traditional figurative subject into a rhythmic modern composition. Its combination of strong geometry, handcrafted texture and cultural reference demonstrates why Fisch?s textiles attracted the attention of international collectors and designers during the mid-twentieth century. Fisch also participated in the wider museum and collecting community. The Museum of Modern Art?s archives record her involvement as a lender to its 1954 exhibition devoted to the ancient arts of the Andes.
