Bidspirit auction | Large Antique Persian / Indo-Persian

Large Antique Persian / Indo-Persian Style Copper Battle Scene Tray - An impressive antique Middle Eastern copper tray displaying Persian or Indo-Persian artistic influences and featuring an extraordinarily detailed battle scene with numerous warriors on horseback and on foot. Measuring 25.5 inches in diameter and weighing approximately 9 pounds, this substantial piece showcases the elaborate craftsmanship associated with traditional Middle Eastern metalwork. The central medallion features an intricate floral rosette surrounded by concentric bands of geometric and decorative patterns. Encircling the center is an extensive battle scene depicting mounted warriors, soldiers carrying weapons, horses, and numerous figures engaged in combat. The remarkable density of the design creates an almost continuous panorama of military action, possibly inspired by a historical or legendary conflict. Additional ornamental borders and a beautifully scalloped outer rim complete the composition. The reverse retains its metal hanging loop, allowing the tray to be displayed vertically. The copper surface exhibits an attractive aged patina, with darker oxidation highlighting the intricate engraved and chased details. Overall, the tray remains in very nice antique condition, with expected surface wear consistent with its age. The large size, elaborate craftsmanship, and extensive battle scene are particularly notable features of this impressive example of traditional Middle Eastern decorative metalwork.
