Bidspirit auction | Antique Japanese Signed Wakizashi Sword

Antique Japanese Signed Wakizashi Sword with Scabbard - This antique Japanese wakizashi features a 16.75-inch steel blade with a clearly visible hamon (temper line) and a Japanese signature on one side of the tang. The blade has an attractive overall appearance with some minor surface marks and a small chip along the edge near the base. The sword measures 21.625 inches overall without the handle and scabbard. The traditional tsuka (handle) measures 5 inches and features rayskin panels with black cord wrapping. The sword is fitted with an openwork iron tsuba (guard) and decorative metal fittings. The hardware is somewhat loose, and the handle wrapping has areas of looseness and broken cord. The black lacquered wooden saya (scabbard) retains much of its original finish, although there are some cracks in the wood and a section missing along one side near the opening for the kogatana utility knife. Overall length with the handle and scabbard is 23.5 inches. An antique Japanese short sword retaining its traditional fittings and signed blade, with age-related wear as described and shown in the photographs.
