Bidspirit auction | WWII Japanese Imperial Navy Type

WWII Japanese Imperial Navy Type 97 Kai-Gunto Officer's Sword w/ Signed Blade - This World War II-era Japanese Imperial Navy officer's sword features a 27.5-inch steel blade with a visible hamon (temper line) and a Japanese signature on one side of the tang. The blade remains in good overall condition, showing some light surface marks and minor age-related discoloration. The traditional tsuka (handle) features rayskin panels with brown cord wrapping and decorative metal fittings. The brass-colored tsuba (guard) features an openwork design with cherry blossom decorations. The sword retains its dark lacquered saya (scabbard) with brass-colored fittings and two suspension rings. The sword appears to remain in original, unrestored condition, with age-related wear to the handle and scabbard. One suspension ring fitting is loose from the scabbard body. The brass-colored collar at the scabbard opening is also loose when the release button is engaged to withdraw the blade. Overall length with the handle and scabbard is 39.5 inches. An attractive example of a Japanese naval officer's sword retaining its signed blade and traditional military fittings, with condition as described and shown in the photographs. Please review all photographs for additional details and overall condition.
