Bidspirit auction | WWII Japanese Imperial Army Officer

WWII Japanese Imperial Army Officer Shin-Gunto Sword w/ Signed Blade - An attractive World War II-era Japanese Imperial Army officer's shin-gunto sword, featuring traditional Japanese-style fittings and a signed blade. The sword appears to be mounted in Type 98-style Army officer fittings, with an ornate brass-colored tsuba (guard) decorated with cherry blossom motifs. The grip features traditional cord wrapping over a textured underlay, with decorative metal fittings and an attached military sword tassel. The curved steel blade retains its traditional form, with visible signs of age, scattered spotting, and surface discoloration. The tang bears a Japanese inscription, which has not been fully translated or attributed to a particular swordsmith. The blade length is 25.5 inches. Accompanied by its brown scabbard with metal fittings and an attached suspension fitting. The sword displays an appealing overall appearance, with honest wear consistent with age and use. An interesting example of a Japanese military officer's sword from the World War II period, complete with its scabbard and sword tassel. A desirable addition to a collection of Japanese swords or WWII military artifacts. Condition: Good overall antique condition, showing age-related wear, patina, and oxidation to the blade and fittings. The grip wrapping exhibits wear and discoloration.
