Bidspirit auction | Rare A. Schrader’s Son Friction

Rare A. Schrader’s Son Friction Style Dive Knife - This is a rare and highly desirable diving knife manufactured by the A. Schrader's Son Company of Brooklyn, New York. The vast majority of Schrader diving knives were produced with the familiar screw-style sheath, a design closely associated with the U.S. Navy and the iconic Mark V diving helmet. This much scarcer friction-fit style was favored by some commercial divers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, very few surviving examples of this Schrader variation are encountered, making it a particularly appealing find for collectors. The blade is stamped A. SCHRADER'S SON Inc. BROOKLYN, N.Y. and displays honest signs of use and age, reflecting its working history. The dark brown wooden handle remains intact, complete with its original-style brass hardware. With its distinctive construction, historic American maker, and remarkable scarcity, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire an uncommon piece of early commercial diving history.
