Copy owned by the Imrei Binah and Rabbi Nissim Ashkenazi: Shut Lev Same’ach, only edition, Salonika 1793

The top of the title page has the name of the book written as: “Peticha Shut from the Rav baal Lev Same’ach”—Shut Lev Same’ach, by Rabbi Avraham Aligri, author of the Lev Same’ach on the Rambam. Only edition (facsimile editions were subsequently printed). At the end is an “introduction to a pamphlet from Rabbi Ruach Yaakov”—Shut and likkutim from Rabbi Yaakov di Corona, with a special title page and the year noted as 1792. [2], 102, [1], 32 leaves.


New binding, worming holes, stains, some leaves have been filled in from another copy, overall good condition.


The title page has important signatures of ownership, one in Ashkenazi script: “Meir Auerbach”, and another in Mizrahi script: “Nissin Ashkenazi”, see below items.


Rabbi Meir Auerbach of Kalish and Jerusalem (1815-1878) was the son of Rabbi Yitzhak Isaac, a rabbi in Kalish, Kvili, and more. Moved to Jerusalem in 1859, was appointed to lead the Old Yishuv together with Rabbi Shmuel Salant. He authored Imrei Binah, Jerusalem 1869. Authored articles in Ohr Torah and Kvod HaLevanon and Tvunah.


Rabbi Nissim Avraham Ashkenazi born in Izmir and served as dayan in the beit din of Rabbi Chaim Palagi, and wrote many books including Nechmad LaMar’eh, a commentary on the Yerushalmi, Maaseh Avraham, Shut on the 4 sections of the Shulchan Aruch, Drash Avraham, drashot and commentaries on the Torah, and more.
