Rare! Sefer Ysod: Shut Maharanach. First edition, Istanbul 1610(?)
First section of the responsa from Eliyahu N. Chaim”, known as “Shut Maharanach”. Approximately 1610 (the title page features the Sultan Ahmed, who was king around that time. See M. Benayahu, Turkish printings which are actually Italian). 6, 272 leaves in the original—this copy is missing the last 3 leaves and leaf 120, which are all added by facsimile. Catalogued in the NLI’s Rare Books section. Stefanski Sifrei Yesod 296.

The editor and publisher, Rabbi Yitzhak bar David Leon, writes in his introduction that some of the letters from the author were stolen and Istanbul’s sages ordered that anyone possessing his writings without permission return them. At the end of the introduction is a song of praise, opening “Ma Nimletzu…” (found in Otzer HaShira v’HaPiyut, 3:94, #561).

New (worn) binding, tape on the back of the title page (some covering holes on the title page), worming damage and hole, stains, overall fair condition.
