Comments/description: This is one of four letterpress plates we are offering of signs that feature Major League pitcher and Connecticut native Frank Spec Shea of the Yankees (and later Washington Senators). This motif features the tag line PLEASANT MEMORIES. Shea was a big deal rookie in 1947, posting a 14-5 record with a 3.07 ERA and led the league in win percentage and fewest hits allowed per 9 innings. The showing led to a third-place finish in Rookie of the Year voting and he earned his only All-Star berth. As this is for a letterpress application, the image on the actual plate is in reverse.
