Goetz Country Club Lager Beer Cone Top DNCMT 4 PERCENT 165-18 - M. K. Goetz Brewing Co., St. Joseph, Missouri. Continental Can Co., 12 ounces, circa 1940s. USBC 165-18. Attractive green-and-cream high-profile cone featuring the “does not contain more than 4 per centum of alcohol by weight” statement. Note the Lager Beer designation, distinguishing it from the earlier Pilsener labels. The “Continuous Brewing Since 1859” claim has an interesting background: Goetz survived Prohibition by producing Country Club Special near beer, keeping the brewery operating when many competitors closed. The side panel also promotes the convenience of disposable cans—no bottle deposits or empties to return. Condition: Excellent display face with rich green color, clear cream lettering and a matching Goetz Beer crown. Photos show scattered small marks, rim wear and oxidation concentrated near the bottom of the seam. The gold-toned cone and bottom retain considerable shine. A handsome example of this alcohol-statement variation.
