Bidspirit auction | Boston Light Ale Crowntainer SOLID

Boston Light Ale Crowntainer SOLID BROWN BROWN JUG VRTN -LIKELY UNIQUE- - Boston Beer Company, Boston, Massachusetts. Crown Cork & Seal, 12 ounces, circa 1940s. Internal Revenue Tax Paid. Extraordinary, likely unique Boston Light Ale “BROWN JUG” variation with a solid brown body and silver spout. The absence of the familiar crosshatched background creates a distinctly different presentation, highlighting the lighthouse emblem and bold vertical “BROWN JUG” lettering. Note also the unboxed, two-line Crowntainer marking near the bottom. The historical side panel connects Boston Light’s colonial heritage with the brewery’s 1828 charter, proclaiming, “Many breweries say old—Only BOSTON can say ‘OLDEST.’” A remarkable opportunity to acquire a major variation of this classic Massachusetts label. Condition: Strong brown color, clear graphics and an especially attractive display face. Photos show scattered scratches and small marks on the body, fine oxidation across the silver spout, heavier oxidation around the mouth, and wear to the bottom and rims.
