David Teniers II Our Old Jewish Alchemist 17th C. Oil on Copper
An original 17th C. oil on silvered copper by this most prominent of old master Flemish artists, the younger Teniers II. On-line, it states he did about 350 paintings of Alchemists, his most favored subject. This totally untouched, uncleaned and all original oil is also in perfect condition. One of two companion paintings from the collections of our octogenarian consignor from his nearly all never seen or offered art properties collected over the last 63 years. This from a modest series titled 'Our Elderly Jews', the other, possibly available by private treaty with the auction house here. Influenced by Van Ostade, he was a practitioner and follower of a Northern School practice by a few of these early old masters, that of crafting a limited number of reduced size oils on generally copper, painting such after his most popular originals and larger oils on wood panel. This completely original oil on copper is by the artist, never in the hands of a gallery, completely untouched, never cleaned and in fine original condition. 6 5/8" H x 8"W
