Philip Evergood. Important Large American Regionalist Pastel
Philip Evergood, prominent American regionalist, ranking up there with among the company of Grant Wood, John Steuart Curry; Thomas Hart Benton etc. One of His Best Paintings. A very fine, oversized pastel on paper, an early one, likely pre-war. Here, a museum grade painting many years ago, having been purchased from an heir. This painting was never sold and from his estate, this particular one is about his very best, in the opinion of the cataloguer. Seemingly based on either ancient Greek literature or a biblical scene. Great fresh condition, oversized, it is painted on two sheets, the artist successfully has attached them together, a tiny minor break in paper on each border side. About 1/2" Does not affect the image.Never framed. 29" x 21 1/2" This item from a local elder, up until now, a very active , eclectic and constant collector for the past 62 years . Due to recent health issues, he has chosen our gallery to undertake the start of the disposal of his formidable collections of over 25,000 -of good to rare antiques and art properties, mostly never seen or offered, from all the many world cultures and all age periods, paleolithic to modern. Ourselves with a free hand to valuations now and future auction offerings, we suggest and invite any to forward us your particular and specific wants, with potential of our also brokering sales by private treaty
