OVERSHOT COVERLETS - American, 19th century. Two overshot coverlets: the first in indigo and white. Centerfield with 'blossom' clusters around optical illusion squares. Tree borders at sides, striped borders all around. No fringe. Well-done center seam. 85” long, 75” wide; together with a coverlet in red, indigo, and white. Centerfield consists of showballs in interlocking circles. Pine tree borders. Fringed on two sides, with center seam. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio. Condition: Indigo and white coverlet: Some small stains. Overall toning. Wear and some weave losses along edges. Center seam well-executed. Small weave breaks on one side. Red, indigo, and white coverlet: Some stains and discoloration. Bottom edge may have once been fringed, now gone. Hole at top of center seam. Minor toning. Some fringe loss on sides. Some warping. Some weave damage.
